Using the Data Logger as a Service Tool
After careful consideration and considerable reluctance we have elected to include the Service Assistant in the T&I Archives. Although the Service Assistant [SA] is not a true data logger in the conventional sense, it does however offer much in the way of function and reporting as the more conventional data logging instruments. The SA long thought to be a product of Honeywell is actually a technology developed by Field Diagnostics and licensed originally exclusively to Honeywell. That licensing agreement is no longer in effect. The SA combines a multitude of field acquired equipment operational input including manifold pressures, output of digital thermometer values and inputs them into an onboard digitized catalog of forms. With these values the instrument is said to calculate among other factors superheat and subcooling values, level of equipment operating efficiency and then logs the results into either a PC or a central server database. It also has the capabilities of providing the technician with a list of recommended corrective actions available based on the data collected from the specific equipment, which is among the reasons we were reluctant to include the SA in the T&I Archives. Nevertheless, the technology is one that is available and one that at least some of the Archives members will likely encounter over the course of their careers, and after all we are not here to make judgment on the validity (or lack thereof) of any instrument but to provide our members with a resource to evaluate their merits on their own. For these reasons we present the available data on the Service Assistant below.
